As part of the preparation for the upcoming National Women’s Cricket Tournament, a new international-standard turf pitch has been built in Cupertino, California.

According to Hemant Buch, Chairman of the West Coast Region of the USA Cricket Association (USACA), the International Cricket Council only recognizes turf pitches for their sanctioned tournaments.

And Abrar Ahmad, a scout with USACA, says "For competition, a turf pitch is absolutely needed to uphold uniform standards."

As part of the tournament, there will be ribbon cutting for the new pitch during the opening ceremony June 4th.

The ground in Cupertino is small compared to many cricket grounds around the country but works well for youth and women players.  "Women's cricket is so very young in the USA and having a turf pitch on which to practice and play is very exciting for the new players" states Raj Padhi, USACA West Coast Region Director.  "Many people, both cricketers and fans, are looking forward to watching the women play on this new pitch.  It will be quite an event."

The new pitch is next to the Cupertino library at 10454 Torre Ave.  The public is invited to come watch the matches for free on June 4, 5 and 6 starting around 9AM each day.
